Gynecomastia is a condition that can be found among men. It is an enlargement of glandular tissue around their breasts. What causes Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia can be caused by multiple reasons such as a thyroid problem, unbalanced estrogen and testosterone hormone level in the body, obesity or usage of certain medication. Gynecomastia can affect both breasts and sometimes one. It’s more common with newborn babies or men over 50 years old. However this can also occur with boys going through puberty. Puberty can fluctuate bodily hormones which can sometimes leave estrogen level too high, which causes gynecomastia. Usually gynecomastia developed during the puberty will fade within 6 months to 24 months. Rarely, gynecomastia can remain longer. This is referred as persistent pubertal gynecomastia. Most gynecomastia can improve over time without any surgery or treatment. However sometimes they have to be treated medically. There are several methods to deal with gynecomastia medically. Gynecomastia surgery can be performed either one or both of the two methods. Your surgeon will carefully observe you and diagnose you with the necessary surgery. One method is to excise the enlarged gland from the breasts. Excision is necessary if the patient has enlarged glandular tissues or if there is excess skin.
Another method is to perform liposuction fat tissues from the breasts to remove excess fat. Liposuction will require the usage of cannula in order to remove the fat tissues. If there was a major reduction in fat tissue, larger excision will be needed.

Furthermore, the incision point of the surgery can be visible but will fade over time. Luckily, complications from the surgery are uncommon.
